One of my favourite books and very luckily for me this came out just as I was at college and about to start my first teaching job. I've always had lots of books not up my sleeve but on my person even when i used to do babysitting jobs during the day. Sometimes there weren't always lots of books around so I took my own. This was always such a favourite.
When I nervously met my class for the first time this is what I took in. It's still fabulous today. I believe it's even great right up into Year 6 because they can write a pocket book like this for somebody else and it is just so cleverly done. There' s some lovely little touches of humour for adults too-you have to know fairy tale characters of course which every child jolly well should. You can make clever little books within books just like these, invites, letters....it's all there to fulfill quite a few genres and writing forms PLUS you get some jolly rhymes and jolly illustrations too.
We wrote our own and put them together to make a class book with a tale throughout. Then we had the Jolly CHristmas Postman too....all those tiny little pockets to delight and surprise again. It's a really great book on so many levels and I believe it has stood the test of time with children too....most good books do don't they.
If you're reading this and you're about to start your teaching career make sure you've got a copy in your TEACHING TOOLS....you'll enjoy it too.
