The article below is by a children's author who has been visiting schools recently. It's worth a look as it opens up a few notions and questions the way we're perhaps, unknowingly reducing children's love of stories by our constant drive to achieve the correct DATA. This made me think as a head. I think there are lots of schemes and systems out there which work for lots of schools but really believe that all of those really have to be in CULTURE where children are immersed in reading, stories and imagination. A purely formulaic approach is so sad for our children today. They deserve STORIES and poems , deserve to have a special time to have their class book. Watching the children today this is what they're made of - IMAGINATION....we have to let them explore their own much more in our schools. It's VITAL, it's fun, it's their right to be CHILDREN and it's right to watch them grow, flourish and imagine with us as educators.
